Salmon-Safe

The world’s first Salmon-Safe certified whiskey

Salmon-Safe, the West Coast environmental certification nonprofit, partnered with Copperworks Distilling in Seattle, and Mainstem Malt in Walla Walla, Washington to release the world’s first whiskey made with Salmon-Safe ingredients.

Having worked with Salmon-Safe on the first ever Salmon-Safe beer fest, we were thrilled to build and execute the public relations campaign around this whiskey. The story was picked up all over Seattle and was featured in a special story on Northwest Public Broadcasting and Oregon Public Broadcast.

Salmon-Safe works to inspire land management practices that protect water quality and wildlife habitat. Their peer reviewed certification standards focus on reducing watershed impacts from farm operations. In Walla Walla, Salmon-Safe certified farmland produces barley and wheat thanks to the work of Mainstem Malt, a company that recruits landowners to adopt the certification so that it can provide single varieties of Salmon-Safe grains, from single family-farms, to breweries and distilleries. This Copperworks whiskey is special for two reasons: It’s the first whiskey made with barley that was grown with Salmon-Safe farming practices, and it highlights the terroir of a single varietal of barley from a single field.
